Best Laid Plans

How’s that end?? … often go awry??

We didn’t get out to see Owen and his parents yesterday so we concentrated instead on yardwork. As in, plenty of.. and all the usual aches and pains that go with being unused to bending, stretching, carrying, and twisting oneself into un-natural configurations whilst weeding. C’est la vie… there is more to do, as always, but it is shaping up.

I got on-line to see if I could come up with a solution to a recurring problem with our flagstone patio area – weeds. We’ve laid it and torn it up 3 times in the last 6 or so years. There is a fabric barrier and crushed limestone – coarse and fine, and a layer of sand but the weeds – they keep a’comin’. The solution apparently is liberal doses of boiling water or application of a stronger than usual vinegar. The sort you would use for pickling.

Today is a run around catch-up day doing a little shopping as the stores were all closed yesterday. Time to head out for some fresh fruits, veggies and some sort of meat to bbq for dinner.

The petals have blown off the last of the tulips in the gusty weather we’ve had the last couple of days but here is how they looked the other day, in all their glory.

May Tulips

  1. Beautiful tulips!

My grandmother used to use boiling water for weeds and ants. I always thought she was a little crazy. Could it be that I was wrong? (No, she really was… but probably not about that, it seems.)

  2. Robin – I SO wish tulips lasted longer. There are just a couple left and the rest are bare stalks.

Yeah, when we were growing up and a large ant hill popped up Mom would use boiling water too. Seems to make sense for weeds as well.
