1, 2, 3, 4, 5…..

November 30, 2011

continuous days of rain.

I was going to bitch about all the moisture we’ve been enjoying but I just went upstairs for another coffee and it’s SNOWING!!!! We have been getting a lot of unseasonably warm temps, well above normal, and thought we might get through November without any snowfall. C’est la vie. Hold on – here we go!

Nine Times Nothing II

November 23, 2011

Oh, it’s one of those mornings when Milo had me up far before I wanted to be out of bed. Just wanted to snuggle back down into the warmth and catch a few more zzzz’s. What is it they say about best laid plans? Ah yes, they often go awry. Murphy!  Sort of a brain-dead haze in front of the computer catching up on news and posting a couple of pics on Facebook.

Things to do – must get motivated and moving. Murphy!

Looks like the cloud is cupping the sun, doesn’t it?

Must choose my attitude before I head out into society at large. Clean up; show up; give it a shot.

Okay – I’m ready to face the day. Have a good one!

Product Endorsement

November 21, 2011

Seeing as how I’m not overly impressed with an awful lot these days (well, certain music, certainly) I thought I’d share this….. because I think it IS beautiful and well executed.

Lynda bought this from a friend at work who sells for PartyLite. It’s a crackled glass cylinder with what looks like a silver acetate overlay adhered to it. The overlay has been stencil cut or otherwise etched away to create the tree silhouette. It looks good during daylight but really comes alive after dark with a candle glowing within it. The crackle glass gives it a shimmery effect.

Now why couldn’t I have thought of something like that? Simply beautiful.

Wood, Trees, Leaves

Progress against the tide

It’s been a busy week here so far between work and working around the house before going to work. We had our yards cleaned up a couple of weeks ago as the willow and birch shed their leaves early. This past weekend though we had a long gusty rain storm that blew our neighbour’s maple leaves into our yard, completely carpeting it. How many leaves does a 70 foot maple tree have? About a kazillion.

This one? Well, when you’re sorta daydreamy from a long period of raking you start to notice the small details around you. To most people I suppose this is just a board on a fence.

Line, Shape, Tone Jumble

Last night around dinner time the wind started blowing from the north and the temperature dropped about 10 degrees in 2 hours. Today it looks like we’ll get up to maybe 6 deg C and it’s still gusty as anything. Apparently there is supposed to be a big dump of snow today further north (which is fine; it can stay up there). We have a few threatening looking clouds whizzing by ourselves.

This is getting to be an annual thing but…. as I raked there were continuous V’s of Canada geese going over. Probably around a thousand a minute spread across the sky, every which way you looked…. and Lord, they are noisy as they flew with all their honking. If they fly low enough you can hear the swishing of the air through their feathers, too. Our dog Milo just sits and stares with a very worried and puzzled look on his face. Speaking of…. here’s my boy now.

Tedeschi Trucks Band - Revelator

I borrowed this from the library about a week ago and it has scarcely been off the CD player. There is a rare, fine quality to Susan Tedeschi’s voice that really appeals to my ears. Combining those talents with those of her husband, Derek Trucks on lead guitar, and the fine band they’ve assembled is brilliant music making at it’s finest. Great song writing, wonderful playing, terrific production values all anchored by THAT VOICE.

Lemme see…. fave tracks…. Okay, the lead off track – “Come See About Me’, then “Bound For Glory’, and ‘Until You Remember’,  ‘These Walls’, & ‘Learn How To Love’. So that’s 5 tracks out of 12 that are faves and I could have substituted another 3 for any of these so I’d say that’s a pretty strong album.

Buy this album and go see them if they tour nearby!

Parallax Distortion

…..deceives what the eye perceives.

During the time I’ve been blogging (just had a peek at the original blog to see that I started in October ’06 ! – 5 years ago) I’ve tried to keep my posts in the tasteful range; not to shock or offend anyone’s sensibilities. I may struggle from time to time with boundary issues but everyone has their own set of peccadilloes, I suppose. Anyway this photo that I’m about to post would be considered strolling up to the edge of said ‘tastefulness’ and having a peek over the side. It makes me laugh, is what it does, because it is SO far from depicting reality…. and I’ve always enjoyed things that trick the eye. So here goes; I hope it gives you a chuckle, too.

Elephant Man

Overlapping shadows from diffuse light sources caused my shadow to look like this. I was walking past and paused wondering, ‘why I was going to this room and what had I planned to do there anyway? and noticed the shadow. Couldn’t resist shooting this image.

So, that’s my Freaky Friday Fhoto. If it gave you a giggle, please say so. If it didn’t… click away to your next favourite blogger. Enjoy your weekend!

Sunset Reflection

…on the building I work in.

Hawk Imprint

On Monday a hawk snatched a pigeon out of the air, dragged him around for awhile and then dined on it… to the interest of a gang of students waiting to enter their class from this hallway. Apparently during the chase the hawk slammed headlong, full force into this window. Gotta say he must have been in bad need of a bath because he left an awful lot of dust here. ‘That’s it – a bath and some aspirin for my headache… and maybe some Tums for my belly.’
